I have been working at Temporary Housing Directory as a relocation consultant for the last 5 ½ years and also for the OP team for the past few years working directly with Farmers Insurance. Before coming to THD, I worked as an adjuster at Allstate Insurance for 6  years  in the Northern California office. THD was one of my favorite vendors to work with while I was an adjuster.  After I moved to Vegas I found out that THD had an opening.   Being an adjuster definitely helped out with this job because I was able to understand how both aspects of the claim work. I have enjoyed getting to know all the fabulous ladies I work with and also being able to help our customers in their time of need.

When I am not working, I enjoy going to sporting events, fishing and running along the Greenbelt in Boise. The one thing I miss about living in California is going to all the different sporting events. When I lived in Sacramento, I would often go to Oakland Coliseum to see the Oakland A’s play baseball and even saw my idol Peyton Manning play against the Raiders there when he still played for the Indianapolis Colts .  My favorite sporting event by far was when I went to North Carolina to see a Duke Blue Devils basketball game. I have been a Duke fan for about 20 years. I had to buy an extra suitcase to come home on that trip because I pretty much bought everything the student store had to offer. The walls of my office are covered with Duke memorabilia from that trip. My dream is to go to a Duke/ UNC game and sit in the student section with the “ Cameron Crazies”. My other great passion besides sport is writing. I have a degree in English with an emphasis in technical writing. I mostly write poems and short stories, but most recently have gotten into songwriting. Someday I hope to be a published author.

2014 is going to be an exciting year for me since I am getting married in August. Chris and I have been together for almost 2 years and got engaged in September. We are getting married on a rooftop in downtown Boise, which will be very interesting because I am afraid of heights!

I’ve had the extreme pleasure of working with Temporary Housing Directory for over 8 years, and I feel so fortunate to be on-board with such an amazingly remarkable and caring group of people.  Your passion for what you do, and more importantly, how you do it,  shines throughout every department and is evident in the tone of the clients’ voices when they say thank you for really caring.  And that caring extends out beyond the clients and reaches towards every member of the company, just like a family.  And I hope to be on-board for many more years to come.

I hail from Connecticut, which was once known as the insurance capital of the world, so it was not surprising when I was transferred 30 years ago to delightful Denver, as a property claims adjuster.  I have two beyond wonderful kids, Brynelle who is a freshman at CU in Boulder, and Colin who is  a junior at Cherry Creek High School in Greenwood Village.   I also have two 4-legged kids, an orange tabby cat and a yellow lab, who grew up together and are buddies. Varied and sundry 4-legged children come to visit when their parents go out of town, but before they can stay with us, they have to pass the “cat-scan” and the “lab report” (get it?).  

In my spare time, I like to hike, bike, and make people smile, swim, cook, write, and am currently looking for someone with a boat so I can get back into water-skiing!  Does anyone know of anyone?  It never hurts to ask!  I’ve also gotten to be pretty good at “fixing things” (though I wouldn’t necessarily call it a “hobby”) like dishwashers, garage overhead doors, washers, dryers, doors, trash disposals, etc; and although I can’t guarantee they are fixed in any sort of a customary manner whatsoever, I will make ‘em work!  I’m a big believer in gorilla glue, duct tape, electrical tape, pliers, a jar full of various nuts, screws, bolts, and hinges, a hammer, and a bigger hammer!   

It’s not too late to Winterize your Home

Over the years Temporary Housing Directory (www.temporaryhosuingdirectory.com) has spoken to many customers that have not protected their homes from the harshness of the winter.  Since the winter months are already upon us we wanted to share with you a few necessary steps that you should take to winterize your home.

  • Clean you gutter by removing fallen leaves and other debris.  According to the Insurance Institute, drains can form ice dams, in which water backs up, freezes and causes water to seep into the house.
  • Adding more insulation to your attic is a necessity since heat rises and can escape through your attic.
  • To eliminate drafts, make sure you caulk cracks around windows. It is best to use water resistant caulk.
  • Add weather stripping to doors and windows when winterizing buildings.
  • Clean your furnace replaces the air filter. Dirty air filters clog the flow of air and could start a fire.
  • Make sure you service your fireplace or wood burning stove. It is a good idea to have professional chimney sweep come out to clean to inspect whichever one you have.
  • Make sure all fire alarms are in good working order and have new batteries.

These are just a few steps to get you to help you prepare for the cold winter.  For more information it is always a good idea to check with your insurance agent.

THD Glitz and Glam 2013

On November 8, 2013 – Temporary Housing Directory Associates traveled to the majestic mountains of Boulder, CO to celebrate in style at the breathtaking St. Julien hotel.  The theme was “Glitz and Glam” and the evening was magical!  Everyone along with everything was very glamorous and glittery!!  There was an electrifying energy in the room with everyone coming together and celebrating another fantastic year with an amazing group of people!

The ALL IN contest winner was announced – and the Leasing Team won the honors with their amazing THD cookbook that is also being used by our adjusters and clients!!  Congrats to their amazing idea and reaping the top honors for our contest!!  They are truly ALL IN!!!

The entire staff presented our President and founder Teresa Vidger with a handmade quilt with each employee’s personal message sewed into the quilt – it was a wonderful and special moment to witness her joy and excitement!  The magic just kept continuing throughout the night when the smiles and laughs and cheers for not only each other – but the excitement of what to expect in 2014!!  With a group of amazing people dedicated to THD – the possibilities are endless – together we are THDStrong!!!

Meet Jennifer Perry…..

I have been with Temporary Housing Directory for 2 years.  I love working for this company!!!   I feel so honored and blessed to work from home and be a part of THD and to be surrounded by such an amazing group of people who work diligently to help others in sometimes the hardest moments of their lives.  Everyone works together and is willing to give support to whoever needs it and has such a caring disposition and wonderful sense of humor!  THD has camaraderie like no other company I have ever worked for and I am so glad to be part of it.

I have a customer service background that spans to the beginning of my career.  I have always worked in a position where I have served the public or consumers.  I love helping others and making their day a little brighter. J

I’m from Dallas, TX and have been married for 17 years and have 4 children.  I enjoy spending time with my family, reading and supporting my children’s sporting activities. 

I look forward to working with everyone in the future and enjoying the years to come with THD!

Temporary Housing Directory's Conference Blitz

The Fall is always is a busy time for networking with our clients at insurance industry conference and tradeshows.  This year is was no different as our associates at Temporary Housing Directory flew across the country to attend these educational events.

The PLRB Central Regional Conference was held in Des Moines, IA September 10-11.  This event was well attended by insurance carriers throughout the Mid-West including companies such as Auto Club, State Auto, MEEMIC, Motorists and Auto-Owners. Some people drove as far as Michigan to attend this educational two day conference and exhibits. 

The following week our team at THD flew to Sacramento, CA to attend the 20th annual California Claims Conference of Northern California (CCNC).  This event focuses on continuing education for P&C Insurance Claims Professionals.  THD had an exhibit and had a chance to reacquaint with many customers and service providers in the industry as well as meet many new people as well.  The last day of the show was fun as the attendees made their way from trade booth to trade booth to get their “Passport” cards stamp for great raffle prizes.

October 29-30, THD attended the PLRB Eastern Regional Conference that was located next to the Charlotte Speedway.  Of course being so close to the raceway, Toni and Charla with THD went with a few other attendees to check out the track.  Just like racing, the conference was fast moving with all the attendees coming through the halls so say hello to Temporary Housing Directory and the other service providers. 

To round-up the year, PLRB had their Large Loss Conference in Jacksonville, FL November 19-20.  It was a beautiful setting for this educational conference.  The conference had many classes that catered to the P&C insurers.

THD enjoys attending conferences throughout the year so that we can visit with our customers as well as stay educated on the challenges and processes our customers go through to delivery outstanding service to their policyholders.  We have already begun our planning for 2014 and our first two conferences will be the 2014 National Tornado Summit (www.tornadosummit.org ) being held in Oklahoma City on February 10-11 and the PLRB 2014 National Claims Conference (www.plrb.org) being held in Indianapolis, IN on March 16-19.

Meet Christine Carroll….

Christine joined the THD team in July 2011. She and her family live in Clermont, Florida which is right outside of Orlando, Florida and just 30 minutes from Disney World. She has helped out in several departments but happily landed in THD’s relocation department where she handles customer care issues and sets up utilities for our relocation accounts.

Christine also heads Temporary Housing Directory’s Healthy Side program, encouraging healthy living and fitness to all THD employees.
She loves keeping active herself by playing many sports with her 8 year old son, running cross country with her 12 year old daughter and walking/running her dogs.

Christine feels blessed to be a part of the THD family and wants to continue to grow as a valuable member of a team that prides themselves on helping others and being customer oriented in every aspect of the job.

Temporary Housing Directory's ALL IN Contest

Back in April Temporary Housing Directory rolled out an ALL IN contest to the company.  Each month, each department had to come up with a way that bring everyone together whether it was cost savings to Temporary Housing Directory, marketing ideas, and /or just creating a true “all in “ theme awareness!  It has been amazing to witness the creativity of our staff – the hotel team was first and knocked it out of the park with starting a Star program!  Each employee had to nominate someone within their department and another department who showed exceptional workmanship for the month.  At the end of each month those with highest number stars won a prize!  This contest is on going through end of year!

The month of June belonged to Customer Care team– which rolled out a “soulcial” networking” program.  Each employee was asked to give back, reach out,  volunteer etc to their  community and turn stories or pictures un a heart-shaped announcement that showed their accomplishments.  At the end of the month – whoever had the most “hearts” won a prize.

In July, the housing team created a cookbook with the compilation of delicious recipes from all the employees!  The premise was to not only share with one another, but to share it with our adjusters and clients.  It is on our Facebook https://www.facebook.com/TemporaryHousingDirectory – check it out for some fun new recipes to try!!  This has been such a success that we actually made into an online book for sale as well!

Next was the Relocation department’s turn in August!  They were asking everyone in THD to get 2 likes on our Facebook page – to get our social network site some serious action!  The goal was to get 100 likes for the month!  What a surprise when they tripled the goal!  Each company member received a customized THD  T-shirt!

In September, our Marketing and One Point Team had a 2 part contest for THD’s charity – Rebuilding Together!  Every flat donation from each employee gets “an angel” and the more angels – the better chance they have to win prize from drawing held every Friday!  The 2nd part – for every lease that THD received – Temporary Housing Directory will donate to Rebuilding Together!

Currently and lastly, the Accounting Team is doing a SMILES theme!  They are tracking each “smile” that one of our employee receives internally within the company – and any extra letters that get sent back to us telling us how wonderful someone is!!  The winner of the most smiles will win a prize!!

On November 8, 2013 – our president will announce the winner of the team who was the most “ALL IN”!!  We are looking forward to hearing the results and enjoying one another at our yearly company holiday party!!  We will be posting the results…….to see who is the winner of this great contest!!  Stay tuned…..!!

Meet Rende Coward

I joined the Temporary Housing Directory family on April 30, 2007 and I can say this is the happiest I’ve ever been.  I was previously in property management for 24 years, but I never felt like I was making a difference in anyone’s life.

Joining this amazing group of people has shown me what true angels are – people who come in and take care of you during the hardest time in your life.  We all work together as one to make the whole process seamless for the adjusters and easy for the insured’s who start off feeling very lost and alone. 

No one in this company considers this a 9-5 job, and everyone is happy to reach out and offer any sort of help you need. These women have brought out the best in me and in each other and have inspired me to give that extra effort every day to get people’s lives back to normal.  I am very proud to tell my friends what I do and who I work for.  I am very honored to be a part of this incredible group of women.

I have been married for 13 years to a wonderfully patient and understanding man who sometimes acts as my IT guy.  He knows my hours and understands my motivations and helps me in more ways than I can count.

My nickname in the company is Ellie Mae as I usually help the people who have multiple animals in their households.  Having myself 3 dogs and 7 cats, I know that our fur-babies are precious members of the family and I strive to find housing options that will allow people to bring their pets with them.

My hobbies are unusual.  I create special effects and creature make-up and costuming for sci-fi conventions, public appearances and the like.  I am a card-carrying Sci-fi Geek in a club of 80 people in DFW who specialize in costuming and effects.  My club appears with local symphonies, publicity events and school programs to get children excited about science and the future.  My garage currently is occupied by a Holodeck Arch from Star Trek, a Tardis from Dr. Who and a half-scale Stargate we built as a club.

So that’s me – always looking to the future, and happy that my future is with this amazing company of women!

My name is Tina Duke and I work in the Accounting Department (Go Nerd Herd). I started working at Temporary Housing Directory almost 5 years ago and love it more and more every day. Yes, I love working with numbers! Everyone is wonderful to work with. THD gave me the opportunity to do something I love by helping others and taking care of my family at the same time. I love helping everyone in any way I can.

I live in sunny Texas and have been married for almost 14 years and have a 13 year old son. I’ve been bitten by the workout bug and have started rowing, which I really love. If I’m not working out or walking, I’m cooking, watching movies with the family or going to the shooting range.
